Diarmuid

Diarmuid about himself:

I came to Poland from Berlin, Germany  and absolutely love it here.  I was born and bred in Dublin, Ireland. I grew up in a house that hosted foreign students coming to Ireland to learn English, so you could say my experience with teaching goes back all the way to when I was a baby!
I have been travelling the world on and off since 1997 and have finished my first book. The book covers my experience journeying across the globe in search of a cure for my arthritis. "My Healing Journey" will be avialbale in Poland in both English and Polish later this year.
I am a student of human body movement, Natural and Tribal Medicine. I love martial arts. Am fascinated with Bruce Lee's philosophy and its influence on modern day Mixed Martial Arts. I enjoy writing and learning to sing and play the guitar at the moment.

How to learn English in 1 year .
I learned English by practicing it for 4 hours a day, I couldn’t  find native English speakers to practice my English with so I started using movies , it’s not like everyone else , the way I started was totally different watching moves is not going to help you but studying the movie as a lecture or lession is what would help you , I started with antinational  movies such as (Kong Fu Panda ) with English subtitle and I was taking the movie as a sentence, reading it , writing , and memorized it over and over using the playback button to make the movies repeat itself after few seconds automatically  until I saved it in my mind then I changed to the other sentence .  I spent almost a month just in one movie , it sounds boring for most of and that’s why you need to find a movie you really like .
the first movies was really hard to finish but after few months I found myself  getting better and better faster than everyone else  then I started to practice my English over skype  with native speakers besides the movies and that’s how I learn English.

Tell me about your patent ?
They considered it as a patent in my country but It shouldn’t be like that because some people already did it in other country
My patent is about a software that translate Arabic names to English in a way that makes all the Arabian names translated in one formal which means no more mistakes in translating names in University certificate or passport , it’s like one formula for each name , that’s would make all people with Arabian names avoiding certificate mistakes and that kind of system could be applied for whole University , schools ,  institutes , companies and mails . if we can make it to all languages around the world nobody would have problem with translating his name or putting it in any certificate specially in different languages .

The strangest thing that happens to you ?
The strangest thing  happens to me here in Warsaw was on 25th of December 2014 , I was walking in the old town at night 9 pm , then I saw a group of people dancing and parting ,they seem to be funny , open minded and not from the city most of them was little bit old between 40’s or 50’s and 2 girls almost 20 . I liked the dancing and I was taking a video for them dancing then one of the ladies from the group griped  my hand to dance with them , they were dancing in a circle , holding hands and going around the musician who plays  in the middle , I danced with them for 5 min then one of the ladies start talking to my in polish and I just told her that I don’t speak polish (Nie mówię po polsku)  but she kept talking in Polish then I decided to start saying Tak and Nie (yes and no ) because it was the only thing that I know in Polish language , then she keep talking for 30 min in polish and I didn’t understand anything I was just saying (Tak , Nie ) randomly for 30 min then she called her daughter and graped her hand and put it between her hand and chest then she did the same for me and put it face to face with each another it was so close like 10 cm , then a girl was setting behind me was speaking in English then I asked her what’s going on , the she said “ she wants you to say something nice to her daughter , and I just said “Nie mówię po polsku”  I don’t speak polish then her daughter felt shy and I couldn’t understand why she did that and lady behind me didn’t want to translate and keep laughing  , I couldn’t understand way  , then she started to talk old women started to talk to me again for 10 min and kept telling her I don’t speak polish (Nie mówię po polsku)  then I went back home .

Alberto

                                                   Interview with Alberto

Why did you decide to come to Poland ?
7 years ago I was living and working in France (nope, not in Paris). There I met several Polish people. Everytime we had vacations they were going home to visit their families and they were carrying a lot of stuff back to France, including pierogi made by their grand mothers.
They were always talking me about Poland.
It was my first time outside Mexico and I would travel for one month at the end of my contract. Sincerely, Poland wasn't included in my travel plan, but suddenly I was in Budapest for the second time (I looove Budapest, but when you have such a short time you have to move fast), so I went to the bus station and asked for a ticket to anywhere. They had tickets to Amsterdam and Kraków. Guess which one I chose?
Back in Mexico I met many other Poles, they were teaching me some stuff.
Then in 2011 I was traveling with my brother and I visited Poland again. After that trip I really wanted to live in Poland for a longer time. I started to apply to job offers on the internet. It took me a lot of time, but finally a company hired me and that's how I'm here

What do you like about Poland/Warsaw ?
So far I like everything but the weather. But I don't complain that much, this winter has't been too cold. -10 is still fine for humans.

What was your  the longest bike trip ?
Unfortunately in Mexico I didn't have mych free time and my longest trip was only 110 Km from Mexico City to Pachuca. But I was cycling everyday to the office. It's pretty common in Europe, but in Mexico is kind of a revolutionary act.

Can you tell me about Lucha libre
I could write a whole thesis on that subject.
Pro wrestling actually came from the US in the 30's. In the beginning all the wrestlers were Americas, but then they started to train Mexican wrestlers and then the whole thing evolved in a very different way. The Mexican style is more spectacular than the American one.
Apparently it was an Irish guy who had the idea of using masks for the wrestling shows. People liked it and since then most of the wrestlers use a mask.
BTW, wrestling os the 2nd most popular sport in Mexico, just after soccer. Yes, wrestling is not real, but you need training and good skills to perform all those acrobatics. Is cheap violent theatre for the people.
It became part of our national identity and whenever there is a major sports competition (World Cup, Olympics...) you will see Mexicans wearing them.

Tell me about your blog
My blog... well... is pretty hard to describe... is a mix of everything: real stories, personal opinions on secific subjects, tales... most of the time  with  a lot of bad words.

Effy

Interview with Effy - translator, student, cooking lover, Chinese teacher in Warsaw.

Is there a chef you admire the most? Who and why?

Umm dunno any super famous chef really, maybe my uncles ex wife, she made the most delicious dumplings I ever had

What is your favorite food to eat?

My favorite dish... Fish filets in hot chili oil

What is your favorite cuisine to cook?

Favorite cuisine.. Chinese Sichuan cuisine. Everything's spicy lol

Tell me about Chinese food and drink.

Chinese food is too broad, we have many kinds of cuisines in China, Cantonese is more of a classy kind of food, things are served in small steamers, most famous dish is probably shrimp dumplings, they're made of a special kind of flour and starch with shrimps inside; Sichuan food is famous for the taste - spicy, fish filets in hot chili oil is a perfect example l, and hot pot is originated in Sichuan ! The north-west food is famous for their noodles, those small Muslim noodle chain restaurants are literally everywhere, Fujian is famous for their snacks, partially because it's located in the south shore, right next to Taiwan, they have amazing bubble tea shops on every street, and you can find a lot Taiwan snack shops over there.
I grew up in Inner Mongolia and lived in many provinces. I can say that we have the best lamb and beaf for hot pot or BBQ in Inner Mongolia
People drink beer and a kind of alcohol that looks like water (like vodka) it's made of rice and super strong 40-50% vol, you can even find it up to 70% sometimes
Usually people drink milk tea, there're small shops that sell them everywhere
Some of them also sell fresh juice

What's the Strangest Thing You've Ever Eaten?

The strangest thing I ever had might be frogs ..
